Altium designer on mac5/10/2023 I've also been using a USB-to-serial adapter which too operates fine. Both run well through Rosetta (Android Studio is a little slow however), both detect and communicate with devices over USB flawlessly. VSCode and LaTeX can be downloaded in preview ARM versions which absolutely fly - LaTeX compile times are just phenominal - to the point where I didn't believe it initially.Īpps that are required for my research but otherwise I wouldn't use are Android Studio and STM32CubeIDE (programming environment for ST microcontrollers). MATLAB (and Git, I believe) run through Rosetta, but still perform faster than my old Surface Book. I transitioned over from a 1st-gen Surface Book.Īpps that I frequently use, which are Git, MATLAB, VSCode, and LaTeX, all run very well on Apple Silicon. Spoilers: it's been awesome with little-to-no problems. It's my first time owning a Mac and using macOS. This is intended as a 'reference post' for people in a similar position to me about how my experience has been using a new M1 Mac as a daily-driver for my current EEE research.
